About the Package

Magnificent Structures
The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha are attractions that must not be missed on a visit to Thailand. If you have come to experience the exoticism of the Orient, you’ll find it here at its most dramatic.

Over 100 Buildings
The huge palace compound, which encloses more than 100 buildings, was constructed more than 200 years ago when Rama I, the first king of the ongoing Chakri dynasty established Bangkok as the Capital of Siam.

Photographic Stage
Have your camera ready, because this is one of the most photogenic places on earth. Golden spires, fierce statues, shining roof tiles and glittering mosaics — representing some the country’s finest and most experimental architecture — loom from all directions and the effect can be overwhelming. The compound also houses museums of weaponry, religious artifacts, coins and royal decorations.

Spiritual Center
The Temple of the Emerald Buddha adjoins the Grand Palace and is the most important spiritual center for the Thai people, who make pilgrimages from all over the country to pray there. The temple houses a green Buddha that was carved from a single piece of fine jade in the 13th or 14th century. The venerated image sits on a high golden throne surrounded by countless gold ornaments.

Historical Murals
One of the more subtle yet most significant features surrounding the temple area is a 178 sectioned hand-painted wall mural depicting the story of the Ramayana, the king’s battle against evil. Alongside the fantastic, the paintings include many scenes of everyday life in old Siam.

Guided Tour
The palace is best experienced with a guided tour — explanations (and some very colorful stories) are crucial to gain an understanding of its religious and cultural significance — it is much more than just a collection of beautiful buildings and objects.
