Myanmar Stops Visa on Arrival at Airports
MYANMAR will stop visa-on-arrival (VOA) facilities for foreign visitors at Yangon and Mandalay International Airports from September 1, 2010.
The Department of Immigration and National Registration announced that the move was necessary to allow it to “check the records of tourist arrivals”.
The system is believed to help increase tourist arrivals. Latest data showed that some 4,500 foreign visitors were granted VOA in May and June.
From September 1, all foreign visitors will be required to apply in advance for a visa at Myanmar embassies or use pre-arranged VOA through travel agencies.
