New Museum Shows All About Bangkok History
Bangkok is nowadays Thailand’s largest city where high rise buildings and luxury shopping malls are juxtaposed with aged-old stupas and multi-tiered temples. Founded as a capital of the Thai kingdom in 1782, the city has evolved from a small community by the Chao Phraya River to a metropolis. Have you ever wondered what Bangkok was like and how things have changed since it was established 228 years ago? Rattanakosin Exhibition hall, a newly open museum, will bring you back to the past of this city.
The museum, which is converted from an old building, is located in front of Ratchanadda temple on Rachadamneon Klang Road in the old quarter of Bangkok. It consists of seven exhibition rooms, each representing different aspects of the grandeur of Rattanakosin – another name of Bangkok. Visitors can view 4D multimedia spectacles presenting the early history of the city, learn about the evolution of Bangkok’s architecture during the past two centuries, or enjoy the 360° multimedia demonstrating various forms of entertainment in the Rattanakosin period.
On the fourth floor of the building, you can admire the views of the Ratchadamnoen Road as well as a closer look of the Loha Prasat – a multi-tiered religious structure with 37 metal spires, signifying the 37 virtues toward enlightenment – and the Golden Mount.
