About the Package

Dubbed as the cradle of Chinese civilization, Xi’an has much to explore in terms of architectural wonders and cultural heritage. Situated in the central part of Guanzhong Plain, some 900km southwest of Beijing, Xian was the capital of China for more than a millennium. It was one of the largest capital cities with the largest population in world history.

City Center

Many of the busiest areas in Xi’an lie within and around the City Wall, while its outer areas are mostly industrial zones or residential areas. The city can be easily explored on foot, and the best starting point is Bell Tower Square near the south gate of the city wall.

One of the interesting places often overlooked by visitors is the teahouse. Most have a separate tea drinking area and offer a variety of traditional Chinese tea and fine tea sets. If you want to do something off the tourists’ beat, try Chinese traditional massage. There are many massage parlors around town, some good ones can be found in the hotels, offering various courses of massage from foot reflexology to full body massage. However, since this is not a typical tourist attraction, many places don’t have English signs. If you don’t speak or read Chinese, consult your guide or have him/her accompany you.

Ancient attractions in the city

Having had a long life span as the center of civilization, Xian surely has many historical places and relics to attract people interested in Chinese history. The first and most impressive piece of architecture from ancient times is the city wall, built in the 14th century, and encompassing Xi’an’s inner city area. Within the wall are the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, which were used to report the time during the Ming Dynasty. Other nearby attractions include the Ci’en Temple, which houses the famed 7 Stories Wild Goose pagoda, Shaanxi History Museum and The Banpo Village, the archaeological site of a 6000 years old Neolithic village.
