Hand phones are more commonly seen in tourist cities like Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Ko Kong and Sihanoukville. The country uses GSM networks. That means US phones are not compatible. Generally, mobile phone reception is more reliable in the city areas of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Cambodia border at Poi Pet but patchy in remote regions and the countryside.
Currently, there are three main mobile phone service providers in Cambodia: Cambodia Samart Communication, MobiTel and Camshin. All of them have international roaming service. Mobile phones are available for rent at Pochentong International Airport. Travellers can buy a pre-paid phone card whose values ranges from $5 to $100. However, registration is required before your numbers are activated. |
