The island’s best beaches face the warm waters of the Andaman Sea, with a backdrop of jungle covered hills and it is along this stretch that the SriLanta resort opened in January of 2001.
A Unique Resort
SriLanta is not your usual concrete and flagstone resort. The designers, acting on the motto the “the resplendence of life” have adapted the best of traditional Thai architecture to create a resort that is in harmony with the country, the natural surroundings, and most importantly, with the pleasure of the guests. Natural materials, a water wall, the very placement of the buildings all encourage a sense of peace. Rather than inundating you with myriad services and facilities, SriLanta’s approach is one of subtle simplicity, offering those things that are essential to the perfect holiday.
Taking the Waters
Leading up from the beach are the common guest facilities comprising several wooden buildings providing for all of your needs. The beach itself offers
the guests shaded open air salas to relax in – all with full service. Or stretch out and take in the sun on the padded cotton sunbeds beside the black stone pool.
Therapy
Nearby is the Daksha Hut, named after the Hindu God of power where trained professional masseuses offer traditional Thai massage to enhance circulation and flexibility, re-energizing both body and mind.
Nourishment
Built in the northern Thai style completely from wood and grass, the Surya Chandra restaurant is a work of art in itself. Entire trees form the pylons that support the thatched roof 20 metres overhead. Guests curl up on cushions at low tables. All the Thai specialities are available here, as spicy as you like it, though quality Western food is also available – all of it served by beaming staff.
A Room of One’s Own
The real stars of the show at SriLanta are the bungalows, which combine comfort with traditional living. Terraced on the hills, with winding paths. But what is really striking is that you actually enjoy being in them. Many resorts have a prefabricated feel to them, and ultimately the room is only the place where you go to sleep. These bunglows are a world unto themselves, with open construction, and flexibility of purpose. If you are in a private mood, you can spend your entire day here, opening up the folding wall of windows, pointing your toes towards the sea and letting the troubles of the “real” world back home melt away.
Activities
In keeping with the resplendence of life theme activities on offer are based on getting closer to all things natural. Yoga, meditation, sailing, mountain bike journeys around the island, scuba diving and even an evening campfire and star gazing are all available on request.
