The Bangkok government is confident that the BTS's extended route for the Onnuch-Baring section will open for service on August 12. The route was inspected last week by Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra who said service on the expanded line will be free until January 1, 2012.

Khom Loy is a Thai word signifying the floating lantern, which is a balloon made from a light bamboo frame covered with mulberry paper. It floats by means of hot air heated by a flaming torch attached inside the balloon. It can be seen in auspicious events, particularly during the water festival of Loy Krathong.
