Packing for Tibet Trip
The type of clothing you bring depends on which parts of Tibet you are traveling to. Casual attire and warm clothing are recommended. You may experience the sudden onset of foul weather as well as temperature extremes in Tibet.
Wearing several layers of clothing that can be easily added or removed is the wise choice since temperatures may vary greatly within a single day. A coat is advised for those who are venturing into more remote areas such as the Everest Camp. A windbreaker plus a sweater are appropriate for summer. Women should avoid skirts or dresses. Comfortable, sturdy sneakers or hiking boots are also recommended. Don’t forget to bring along a warm hat as well as one or two pairs of warm mittens or gloves.
A belt bag should be brought along to keep your travel documents safely with you at all times. You should have sufficient amount of money with you since ATMs are rare in remote areas. Other necessary items you should bring include tissues, plastic bags, a flashlight, extra batteries, sewing kit, medicines and vitamin supplement, padlocks, lighter, and a pocket knife, camera and plenty of films. Sunscreen lotion, sunglasses and lip balm are essential to protect you from sunburn. You may bring your own sleeping bag if you plan to travel outside Lhasa – many hotels in remote areas do not have comfortable beds. It is also a good idea to bring some food or snacks and drinking water when traveling to remote areas of Tibet.
