Airport rail link – Suvarnabhumi airport and Bangkok
The airport rail link system is an elevated 28 kilometer long railroad connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport and Bangkok city. It offers 2 kinds of service; namely the airport express line and the city line.
Train serves passengers from Bangkok city terminal or Makkasan station to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The travel time on the express line is 15 minutes non-stop from Makkasan station to Suvarnabhumi Airport. It takes about 30 minutes for the city line. The line consists of 8 stations as follow;
Phaya Thai station – the starting point of the city line – is located on the east side of Phaya Thai road and connected to BTS sky train station Phaya Thai station.
Ratchaprarop station is situated near Pratunam, the area famous for wholesale clothes and textile.
Bangkok City Air terminal or Makkasan station is where airline passengers can check in the luggages 3 hours before their flights. The station offers parking area and about 400 meters from Pethaburi Underground station.
Ramkhamhaeng station is located on Ramkhamhaeng road and Klongtan intersection. People can go to Ramkhamhaeng university, Assumption university and Rajamangala national stadium from here.
HuaMak station is adjacent to HuaMak railway station near Pattanakarn intersection.
Ban Thap Chang station is in the proximity to Eastern Outer Ring road and Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway.
Lat Krabang station is located on Romklao road near King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology.
Suvarnabhumi station is in the underground of Suvarnabhumi airport. It is accessible from passenger terminal and linked with the airport hotel.
Buying the tickets
Every Airport Rail Link station has been least 2 automatic token dispensers. The computer program automatically calculates the fair according to the distance. Passengers can use 1 baht, 5 baht, and 10 baht coins, or notes to purchase the token. City Line’s fair start from 15 baht up to 45 baht, while Express’s fair is a flat rate of 150 baht. After the passenger pays for the ticket, the machine will dispense token as a gate pass for entering the platform.
The prepaid pass is also available and can be purchases at every station. The minimal prepaid value is 50 baht, which passengers can prepay up to 1,000 baht.
The trains start operation from 6 am to midnight.
