Three Kings Monument
An iconic monument of Chiang Mai City, the Three Kings Monument was built in commemoration of three kings – King Ramkhamheaeng (the founder of Sukhothai Kingdom), Phaya Mengrai (the founder of Chiang Mai) and Phaya Ngam Muang of Payao. The king has it that they worked together to lay out the city of Chiang Mai. Located in front of Chiang Cultural Hall, the statues are 1.5 times of the average human figure. Since there is no historical record about their appearance, the artist who designed the statues improvised their looks from the mythical angle’s faces, which can normally seen on a temple mural.
