Can Tho

can-tho[1]Can Tho is so abundant in natural resources and fertile land that can grow almost anything. Located at the center of Mekong Delta, about 170 kilometres south of Ho Chi Minh City, it was once known as the capital of the Western Province. Economically, the province is a backbone of the country that produces rice, fruits and fresh-water seafood o southern Vietnam for decades.

Sitting amongst hundreds of rivers and canals, Can Tho’s landscape is so unique that it is part of the tour programs for travelers who go to Ho Chi Minh City. There are two 4 star boutique hotels (Victoria Cantho and Victoria Chau Doc) located in this town.

Cantho Floating Market
Located in the Mekhong Delta, Cantho’s landscape consists of a massive network of canals and waterways. The common scene of daily lives of locals here is demonstrated in floating markets that can be seen in every province along the delta.

Cai Be, Cai Rang, Phung Hiep, Phong Dien, Nga Nam and Long Xuyen are some of the floating markets visited by tourists. Among them, Cai Rang Floating Market seems to be the liveliest. The market is open throughout the day but has its busiest time from sunrise to about 9 o’clock. The river is bustling with boats of different sizes that carry a variety of farm produce. Each boat has an upright pole whose top end is used to hang samples of products so that the goods can be visible from the distance. The most common goods sold here is fruits but you can find some small boats that sell soft drinks and beers to tourists.

Most travelers who go to Cai Rang Floating Market stop at My Tho to take a boat to tour orchards, bee farms and coconut candy factories in Ben Tre. Besides the floating market, there are some places worth visiting such as Ninh Kieu Quay, Binh Thuy Temple and Cantho Tourist gardens.

Cantho Tourist Gardens
A combination of an agricultural tour and a home visit, Cantho Tourist Garden tours have gained popularity in recent years. In this tour, visitors will visit local gardens and fruit plantations and eat fresh food and local cuisine. Some farmers convert a part of their land for an animal sanctuary that becomes home to tropical birds, fish and tortoises. Some farms provide lodging to visitors who want to stay overnight in farm.
